Christmas boat and tree

In Greece, the decoration of the tree at Christmas came from North Europe during the reign of King Othon, after 1835. At that time, Greeks used to decorate a small wooden model boat with various ornaments, since they always had a great love for the sea and the travels and were famous sailors.

 

Today, however, the decoration of the Christmas tree has prevailed over the boat, and each year, as Christmas Season begins,the children are eager to decorate it andon New Year’s Eve they take the gifts that are hidden in its branches.
