Hello! We send you greetings from the beautiful sunny Greece, the country of philosophy, culture, letters and arts. Our country is at the southeastern edge of Europe. It looks like a cape of a large European peninsula, the Balkan. We are at a point that is a crossroads of three continents. And we are very proud of it!
We are students from a Greek school. We go to the Third and the Sixth grade of primary school, so we are 8 and 11 year olds.
The area where we are located is called Alimos, Attica. Attica is an area in the center of our country. There is the capital of Greece, Athens, the Acropolis ... and our school (4th Elementary School of Alimos).
Alimos is a suburb in the south of Athens near the sea. So often we go for swimming!
Of course we speak Greek ... not the ancient ones, the new ones of course! But we all know English to talk to foreigners and visitors of our homeland, like you.
You know, of course, that good weather keeps a lot here - about 250 days a year we have sun! So our climate - because we are in the temperate zone of the northern hemisphere and drenched by the Mediterranean Sea - is temperate Mediterranean. Indeed, in some parts of our homeland we swim until October.
The food we eat is a lot and varied. For example, a food that you may already know is moussaka: eggplant with potatoes and minced meat and beamel cream top. Our other food is tzatziki, green beans, peas, stuffed, bean soup and many more.
Of course at Christmas we eat different food and lots of sweets! So we are sending you some of these recipes to sweeten you too.
Along with our sweet recipes, we send you some beautiful ornaments in order to decorate your own European Christmas tree, as we will do in our school.
The students of 3d grade created ornaments using foam paper and stars made of clay, as well as Christmas balls made of newspaper sheets and decorated, mainly, with cinnamon sticks and slices of dried oranges – both abundant in Greek nature.
The students of 6th grade created original ornaments using the technique of decoupage on magnolia leaves which can be found almost anywhere in Greece.
Apart from the Christmas ornaments we are sending you, we also gathered information manners and customs from various parts of Greece regarding Christmas and New Year’s Day, which we present to you next
